So the ‘Engage’ team at Host has been hard at work again. This time its for New Line Cinema and ‘The Number 23’ film.
The plot outline (from IMDB) “A man (Jim Carrey) becomes obsessed with a book that appears to be based on his life but ends with a murder that has yet to happen in real life.”
Mr Carrey is not known for his non-comedic performances so it was important that the films plot was primary in creating this ‘send-to-friend’ mechanic. When its unveiled that he is the main character, the intrigue has already been communicated – rather than dismissed if your not a Carrey fan.
How it works. Personal details are input by a friend, along with a live data feed from current weather based on your location (US only). Users operating system data allowed us to incorporate the time of day and the computer your viewing it on when reading the output story.
The result is a story completely unique to the recipient of the email at that moment in time.
The reciepient is taken to a site where they are asked to input some basic data – DoB and favourite number. Based on this simple information the user is presented with freakishly accurate story about themselves.
